The Sr. Accountant prepares group and statutory financial activities for EMEA countries, ensuring compliance with tax obligations and managing audits. Responsibilities include cash forecasts, payroll management, intercompany reconciliations, and process improvement.
Introduction
The Sr. Accountant will be based in Madrid with exposure to the corporate headquarters accounting organization in the United States as well as to the EMEA regional teams. He/she will be part of a high performing team and will be expected to lead, take ownership of his/her areas of responsibility, and ensure accurate and timely completion of company reporting requirements.What You Will Do:
- The position covers group and statutory activities for Spain, France and Portugal
- The preparation of cash forecasts (3-months cash forecasts)
- Reconcile Accounts Payable, prepare and book monthly accruals (general expenses, marketing), address out of cycle items with the shared AP team based in London, as well as coding questions and approval issues. Review invoices on hold, GRNI Account as/when applicable, maintain prepayment and deposit accounts up to date
- Prepare monthly payroll runs with the HR Department and local payroll provider, ensure all social obligations are met in due time. Book all payroll related entries, prepare monthly reconciliations of all payroll accounts, assist on annual reporting requirements
- TAX and compliance: Ensure that all compliance obligations are met and that filings are processed in due time (Intrastat, VAT, SII, CIT, other applicable tax filings). Address corrections or system fixes when applicable. Act as subject matter expert on all tax subjects and as main contact for Tax advisors, and tax authorities
- Reconcile intercompany balances with other group entities
- Maintain financial records that support local statutory requirements (ES, PT), ensure Local GAAP Ledgers are up-to-date and prepare reconciliation between US and Local GAAP
- Assist for the group and regional audits and tax computation, liaise with auditors, and provide answers to queries
- Assist for Tax inspections and questions raised by the Tax Authorities
- Critically review current accounting and reporting processes to identify ways to improve and automate. Understand changes in iRobot activities and business model and provide good judgement and advice. Maintain primary/secondary mapping when applicable
- Maintain internal controls according to Sarbanes Oxley
- Month/Quarter/Year end Close – Maintain Month end Close checklist and calendar, provide daily status updates during close, prepare and book journal entries, reconcile accounts balance, assist for narratives on month activity
To Be Successful You Will Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, ACCA or similar qualification preferred
- Prior experience in public accounting or in a similar accounting role
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience with Oracle or similar ERP system
- Attention to detail as well as analytical and problem-solving skills
- Desire for continued career progression
- Highly effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Working knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley desirable
- French or Spanish language skills preferred
