The Role

This is a full-time, fully remote position as a Staff Data Scientist. In this role, you will:

• Use statistical modeling to better forecast small business cash flow & other predictors of business health  
• Assimilate diverse data views: commercial bureau, bank and consumer bureau data to build predictive models 
• Calibrate strategies serve  high proportion of target audience while creating a portfolio with the right risk- reward equation   
• Use analytics and experimentation to improve customer experience on the Pipe platform.
• Proactively explore datasets to uncover insights, and prototype new model-driven features and products that provide value to our customers. 
• Deploy models & risk strategies into the ML Ops infrastructure
• Monitor model & strategy performance and finetune strategies in response to credit performance and macro environment

Qualifications

We are looking for talented data scientists with past experience in a similar role. Specifically, ideal candidates will have:

• 10+ years experience in commercial risk management in UK (ideally for SMB portfolio)
• Deep expertise and understanding of UK consumer bureau, commercial bureau and open banking data is a must
• Experience building the end-to-end model development lifecycle
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one scripting language (ex.Python). Data Science culture at Pipe is closely aligned with engineering's, so successful candidates will be familiar with developer best practices and comfortable navigating production codebases.
• Hands on experience in either of these MLOps infrastructure (ex. Chalk, Baseten, Metaflow, SageMaker, Vertex)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Educational background in Statistics, Computer Science, Financial/Applied Math, Operations Research, Economics, or a related technical field. Masters/PhD is a plus.

Tech Stack

We are committed to using the right tools for the problems we are trying to solve. Currently our stack is mostly comprised of:

• Baseten, Bigquery, SQLMesh, Metaflow, Chalk.
• We are primarily a Python and SQL shop, but experience in other languages will translate.
