The (USA) Staff, Software Engineer plays a critical role in delivering scalable platform capabilities and driving the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. The Membership Experience Engineering team at Walmart develops technology that enables seamless shopping journeys for millions of customers. Focused on delivering exceptional experiences anytime and anywhere, the team continuously evolves to meet customer needs. Walmart+ is transforming shopping both online and in-store, and this team plays a key role in designing scalable mobile platforms and enhancing membership features. Engineers collaborate to build robust backend systems, apply cloud-native architecture, and leverage data-driven decision-making. The team values technical excellence, innovation, and delivering high-quality solutions that support Walmart’s mission to simplify everyday life for its customers.

What you'll do:

  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, observability, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalability, resilience, and agility across systems.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility, quality, and alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components to support automation and multi-step reasoning.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements and track success metrics.

What you'll bring:

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong experience in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, Rust, Dart, or C++.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
  • Skilled in data-driven decision making and problem solving to optimize engineering processes and product outcomes.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions to promote engineering excellence and sustainability.

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. Sunnyvale, California US-11349: The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00
Bentonville, Arkansas US-10735: The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
