Description

Sword is a leading provider of business technology solutions within the Energy, Public and Finance Sectors, driving transformational change within our clients. We use proven technology, specialist teams and domain expertise to build solid technical foundations across platforms, data, and business applications. We have a passion for using technology to solve business problems, working in partnership with our clients to help in achieving their goals.

About the Role:

As the Technical Data Architect, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering scalable, secure, and future-ready data solutions across Microsoft Fabric and related data-centric platforms. Working closely with business and technical stakeholders, you will bring expertise in platform architecture, solution design, and data integration to help inform strategic priorities and technical delivery.

This is a hands-on architecture role, where you’ll collaborate across multiple disciplines to ensure that the design and implementation of solutions align with architectural standards, security practices, and business objectives. You’ll guide technical decision-making across a range of areas including data warehousing, metadata and governance, and the integration of hybrid data environments — contributing to both the technical roadmap and day-to-day delivery of new and enhanced solutions.

As our Technical Data Architect, you will be:
  • Informing the architecture, design, and technical roadmap for data-centric solutions using Microsoft Fabric.
  • Designing scalable, secure solutions across OneLake, Lakehouses, Data Warehousing, Dataflows and Pipelines.
  • Supporting initiatives related to metadata, data lineage, governance, and Master Data Management (MDM).
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure alignment with data architecture standards and models.
  • Working with IT SMEs to ensure compliance with security and architectural principles.
  • Participating in feasibility workshops to provide technical expertise and help shape viable solutions.
  • Supporting agile delivery teams with prioritisation, backlog shaping, and iterative delivery.
Requirements
What you will bring:
  • Deep understanding of the Microsoft Fabric architecture and its key components.
  • Practical experience with agile delivery methodologies.
  • Familiarity with fundamental AI and machine learning techniques.
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure, Fabric, Data Engineering) would be beneficial.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think both strategically and pragmatically.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to engage with both business and technical audiences.
