Are you an experienced VP of Engineering who excels at driving transformative change? Percona, a leading provider of open-source database software and services, is seeking a technical VP of Engineering to join our team. This isn't a VP of Engineering role focused on managing a single product or team; rather, you'll be a key leader in orchestrating technical excellence across multiple engineering groups.
This is a fully remote position, and you'll have the opportunity to work alongside a diverse, global team of passionate open-source enthusiasts. You're a high-level strategic thinker with a keen eye for technical detail, and you're not afraid to roll up your sleeves to identify and solve complex problems.
What You’ll Do
Lead Technical Transformation: Drive initiatives that improve quality, efficiency, and reliability across engineering. Optimize our SDLC and help teams leverage AI to boost productivity and innovation.
Mentor & Coach: Guide engineering leaders and senior ICs to achieve technical and professional growth.
Define & Evangelize Best Practices: Establish and promote standards, processes, and technical excellence across the organization.
Strategic Planning: Partner with executive leadership and product management to align technical direction with company goals.
What We’re Looking For
Extensive Leadership Experience: 5+ years in engineering leadership with strong architecture and technical strategy experience. (Database internals knowledge is a plus.)
Open Source Mindset: Hands-on experience in the open-source ecosystem — you understand its culture, challenges, and opportunities.
Technical Acumen: Deep understanding of modern software development, open-source technologies, databases, and cloud-native architectures.
Transformational Leadership: Proven success leading large-scale technical and process improvements across multiple teams or business units.
Excellent Communication: Skilled at explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Collaborative Spirit: Thrives in a remote, distributed environment and builds strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
