Blue Energy, a U.S.-based company with an office in Edinburgh, launched from stealth with its modular nuclear power plant technology. The company also announced $45 million in Series A funding, co-led by investors Engine Ventures and At One Ventures.
As demand for clean electricity increases globally with the rise of AI data centers and large-scale manufacturing facilities, Blue Energy wants to fulfill the growing need for energy generation with nuclear power. The company builds nuclear power plants in shipyards. Its solution significantly reduces plant construction time and can deploy zero-emissions electricity at a similar price to other energy sources, according to the company.
“Using the traditional approach, it takes thousands of workers several years to construct nuclear power plants on site.” Jake Jurewicz, Blue Energy’s CEO, said in a statement. “We’ve designed a modular plant that can be fully prefabricated centrally in shipyards and transported to its operating location.”
While Blue Energy designs modular power plants, the company partners with reactor vendors to power them, expediting their time-to-market. Blue Energy’s latest round of funding will help the company secure additional partners as well as further its core engineering work and site development.
