Let’s build experiences people love—together.

The Opportunity

At UserTesting, the Developer Experience (DX) team builds the internal platforms and tools that engineers use to build, test, and ship software.

Our goal is simple: make it easy for engineers to ship high-quality software quickly and safely. We treat this as a product — engineers are our users, and adoption matters as much as technical excellence.

This role is ideal for a backend engineer interested in growing into developer experience and platform engineering. You’ll contribute to improving developer workflows — including CI/CD, internal tooling, and automation — while continuing to build production backend systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain backend services and internal tools that support engineering workflows

  • Contribute to CI/CD systems and improvements to how software is built and deployed

  • Identify and help address friction in the development lifecycle through automation

  • Work with experienced DX engineers to deliver platform improvements

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand needs and improve developer experience

  • Support AI-enabled improvements in developer workflows where useful

What We’re Looking For

  • Solid experience building backend systems in production

  • Proficiency in Node.js, Python, or Go

  • Experience working with APIs and cloud-based systems

  • Interest in CI/CD, infrastructure, or developer tooling

  • Ability to grow into ownership over time with support from the team

  • Product mindset: you care about usability and developer experience

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines or developer tooling

  • Experience with containers or cloud platforms

  • Familiarity with observability (logs, metrics, tracing)

  • Interest in automation or AI-assisted workflows

Why This Role

  • Grow into platform engineering: Transition from backend into developer experience

  • Real impact: Improve how engineers build and ship software

  • Learn by doing: Work closely with experienced DX engineers

Don’t meet every single requirement but excited about the role? We encourage you to apply. Research shows that some candidates are less likely to apply unless they meet 100% of the qualifications—but you may be exactly who we’re looking for. Diverse perspectives drive innovation, and we’re committed to building a team with a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and skills.

Application Process

  • Meet with a Recruiter

  • Meet the Hiring Manager

  • Participate in a Panel Interview

  • Final Interview (if applicable)

  • Offer Stage

Accommodations

At UserTesting, we’re committed to creating inclusive and accessible experiences for all candidates. We believe diverse perspectives are essential to building exceptional products and experiences. If you require accommodations or would like us to tailor the interview process to better meet your needs, please contact us at [email protected].

UserTesting is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a participant in the U.S. Federal E-Verify program.  Women, minorities, individuals with disabilities and protected veterans are encouraged to apply.  We welcome people of different backgrounds, experiences, abilities and perspectives.  UserTesting will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, as applicable.
