The Contract Manager drafts, reviews, negotiates, and finalizes commercial contracts, ensuring compliance with internal standards. This role supports Sales, Product, and Legal teams and monitors the contracting process for efficiency.
Morningstar's Business Development & Sales group is responsible for helping our advisor and institutional clients build their businesses and provide better outcomes for investors. The group is structured primarily along the following client segments: Advisor, Asset Management, Retirement, and Redistributor.
The Role: The Contract Manager is responsible for drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and finalizing commercial contracts and contract amendments. This role works with the Sales, Product and Legal teams to create contracts, develop negotiation strategies, evaluate risk exposure, and make recommendations to business partners or legal counsel. The Contract Manager ensures that our commercial contracts comply with our internal contracting standards and policies. The Contract Manager is the analytical point person for the Global Contract Management team. This role is a great entry point into understanding Morningstar commercial processes, products, and services.
Job Responsibilities:
o Monitoring timeliness of pipeline;
o Ensuring proper deal setup for timely closing of sales;
o Providing cross functional support to Sales and Sales Operations teams;
o Working with Corporate Systems to enhance and improve contract processing;
o Working with Product, Legal and Finance teams on an ongoing basis to ensure contracts reflect the most recent information.

- Manage contract process for new, renewal and amendment contracts for specific sales teams and products.
- Review and approve contracts prepared by the sales team prior to submission to clients.
- Negotiate with clients on contracts for contractual terms in line with our company policies via email and phone. Escalate issues to business and legal partners for non-standard terms for approval.
- Analyze effectiveness of contracting process by:
o Monitoring timeliness of pipeline;
o Ensuring proper deal setup for timely closing of sales;
o Providing cross functional support to Sales and Sales Operations teams;
o Working with Corporate Systems to enhance and improve contract processing;
o Working with Product, Legal and Finance teams on an ongoing basis to ensure contracts reflect the most recent information.
- This is an individual contributor role.
Specific Knowledge/Skills:
- SalesForce aptitude
- Adept at leading projects and working with a variety of internal client groups.
- Must be able to work under the pressure of deadlines and demands of a variety of business clients and contract counterparties.
Qualifications:
- Excellent analytical and communication skills (including presentation skills).
- Excellent time management, prioritization and computer skills.
