What you'll do...Role summary:
The (USA) Director, Software Engineering leads the execution and delivery of complex software, data, and AI/ML systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and alignment with strategic objectives. This role oversees the Scintilla AI Experience and Intelligence team including full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, driving technical excellence through DevOps practices, cloud optimization, and system health monitoring. The director fosters high-performing teams through mentorship and collaboration, manages cross-functional dependencies, and champions continuous improvement. By integrating advanced technologies and aligning engineering efforts with business goals, this position plays a critical role in advancing Walmart’s technology capabilities and operational success.
About the team:
The team tackles complex business and technical challenges within Growth Tech by utilizing advanced AI coding agents across planning, design, implementation, testing, and operations. They set standards for scalable, reliable, and secure production systems at the convergence of software engineering, data, and AI. Focused on delivering valuable insights to suppliers and merchants, the team develops AI platforms for intelligent automation, including agent orchestration and customer-facing AI solutions. Emphasizing rapid iteration and adaptive systems that learn from usage, the team fosters collaboration and continuous improvement to drive innovation in a dynamic environment.
What you'll do:
  • Lead execution of complex software, data, and AI/ML systems ensuring reliability, scalability, and integration across platforms.
  • Translate domain strategies into actionable plans, aligning teams with architecture and operational priorities.
  • Oversee full software development lifecycle, championing DevOps practices and system health monitoring.
  • Drive cloud cost optimization and reduce operational overhead to enhance engineering velocity.
  • Mentor and develop high-performing teams, fostering professional growth and succession planning.
  • Manage cross-functional collaboration, stakeholder alignment, and roadmap execution.
  • Promote continuous improvement through innovation, feedback, and adoption of new technologies.

What you'll bring:
  • 12+ Years of Proven leadership in system-level software engineering. Managing complex software, data, and ML systems with a focus on reliability and scalability.
  • Expertise in overseeing full software development lifecycle, including architecture, DevOps, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Strong experience in AI/ML product development and integration of agentic systems using languages such as Python, Java, Rust, and Dart.
  • Demonstrated ability in project and stakeholder management, aligning technology roadmaps with business priorities.
  • Skilled in cloud financial management and optimizing engineering velocity through operational efficiency.
  • Commitment to mentorship, team development, and fostering high-performing engineering cultures.

Bentonville, Arkansas US-10735: The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00
Sunnyvale, California US-11657: The annual salary range for this position is $169,000.00 - $338,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Minimum Qualifications...
