At Bupa, we’re here to help people live longer, healthier, happier lives – and to make a better world. With no shareholders, our customers are our focus. That means we reinvest profits into better healthcare for everyone.

This role is a unique opportunity to lead our commercial growth across Africa, with a strong focus on Kenya. As Head of Sales – Africa, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering our sales strategy, building strong partnerships, and leading a high-performing team. You’ll be at the heart of our mission to expand access to quality healthcare in a region full of opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

As Head of Sales, you’ll:

  • Lead the delivery of new business, retention, and distribution growth across Kenya and other priority African markets.
  • Develop and execute go-to-market strategies that align with Bupa’s long-term growth ambitions.
  • Build strategic partnerships with brokers, banks, corporates, and affinity partners.
  • Explore and implement a Tied Agency model in Kenya.
  • Represent Bupa as a visible leader in Africa, both in-person and digitally.
  • Lead and inspire the Africa commercial team, balancing in-person leadership with remote management.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance sales culture focused on accountability and results.
  • Engage with key clients and partners to build lasting relationships and ensure exceptional service.
  • Work closely with teams across underwriting, operations, marketing, compliance, and product development to deliver seamless customer and broker experiences.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity to refine strategy.
  • Ensure all sales activities meet regulatory requirements and align with Bupa’s governance frameworks.
What We’re Looking For
  • A proven track record in senior sales leadership and business development, ideally within health insurance, financial services, or a related industry.
  • Strong knowledge of distribution models and regulatory environments.
  • Experience managing cross-border or multi-market sales operations.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to think strategically and act decisively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Strong commercial acumen and data analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Fluency in English (additional African or European languages are a plus).

You’ll also need to be comfortable working independently, leading diverse teams, and navigating complex regulatory environments. Most importantly, you’ll be passionate about making a difference in people’s lives through better health.
