Role


SP Energy Networks is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager to join our Delivery team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the successful delivery of major Connections and Investment projects that are critical to supporting the energy transition, network resilience, and customer growth across our licence areas.


The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of high-value, complex projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring delivery is achieved safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.


This role requires strong leadership, stakeholder management, commercial awareness, and project governance capabilities, working across multidisciplinary teams and engaging with customers, contractors, internal and external stakeholders.



What you’ll be doing


Lead the end-to-end delivery of Connections or  Investment projects ranging from network reinforcement schemes through to large-scale customer connection projects.


Manage project execution plans, schedules, budgets, resources, and risk registers.


Ensure projects are delivered in line with agreed scope, programme milestones, and financial targets.


Drive project performance through effective planning, monitoring, reporting, and control mechanisms.


Manage project change processes and ensure governance requirements are met.


Build strong relationships with customers, local authorities, contractors, consultants, and internal functional teams.


Manage customer expectations while maintaining focus on delivery objectives.


Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and opportunities.


Ensure compliance with SPEN policies, regulatory obligations, CDM regulations, and industry standards.


Promote a strong safety culture and ensure health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements are embedded throughout project delivery.


Lead lessons learned activities and continuous improvement initiatives.


What you’ll bring 


Degree qualification or equivalent experience in Engineering, Construction,


Project Management, or related discipline.


Project Management qualification such as APM PMQ, PRINCE2 Practitioner, or equivalent.


Full UK Driving Licence.


Project / programme management experience, with a strong performance ethos and a track record of driving and delivering projects and initiatives.


Knowledge of the regulatory environment including relevant output and incentive mechanisms.


General contract, commercial and regulatory awareness with the ability to balance effective and efficient customer service and project delivery, ensuring maximum return on investment.


Effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management.


Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels.



Minimum Criteria


  • Awareness and understanding of key business drivers and the external commercial context in which SPEN is operating.
  • Experience in a project delivery role.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Microsoft suite.
  • Experience in a programme management environment of multiple projects and disciplines.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Strong skills in planning, financial control, contractor  and stakeholder management.
