Job Description
As Senior Database Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within Infrastructure Platforms you will be responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, and maintenance of database systems across multiple platforms. This role requires a deep understanding of various database technologies, and cloud-based databases. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing large-scale databases, optimizing performance, and ensuring data integrity and security.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust database solutions across multiple platforms (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft MSSQL and Sybase).
  • Collaborate with software developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of database solutions with applications.
  • Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and other performance tuning techniques.
  • Develop and implement database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Monitor database systems for performance, security, and availability, and take proactive measures to address potential issues.
  • Lead database migration and upgrade projects, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior database engineers and other team members.
  • Stay current with emerging database technologies and industry best practices to continuously improve database systems and processes.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for database systems, processes, and procedures.


Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in database engineering or administration, with a focus on multiple database platforms.
  • Strong expertise in SQL databases.
  • Proficiency in database design, performance tuning, and optimization.
  • Experience with database security best practices and data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, AWS Certified Database - Specialty) are a plus.


Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience with database automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Shell scripting).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines).
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and business intelligence tools.
  • Experience with cloud-based database solutions is a plus.
