About the role
We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Editor to support the editorial leadership of our gaming and esports news publications. Reporting directly to the Head of Editorial, this role plays a critical part in delivering high-quality, accurate and timely journalism across iGaming, esports and the wider gaming industry.
The Senior Editor will be hands-on with daily editorial output, working closely with writers and contributors to commission, edit and publish content while helping to maintain editorial standards and workflows. This role is ideal for an editor ready to take on greater responsibility, with the ambition and ability to progress into a senior leadership position over time.
This role can be based in Malta (hybrid) or remote within Europe.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Commission, edit and publish news, features, analysis and opinion pieces across core verticals, ensuring accuracy, clarity and strong editorial judgement.
- Work closely with writers, journalists and freelancers to guide story development, provide constructive feedback and support professional growth.
- Support the Head of Editorial in maintaining editorial standards, tone and consistency across all published content.
- Help manage daily newsroom workflows, content calendars and publishing schedules to ensure timely and reliable output.
- Contribute to content planning and idea generation, identifying emerging trends, stories and angles within iGaming, esports and gaming.
- Assist with fact-checking, compliance and editorial governance processes, particularly in relation to regulated gaming markets.
- Collaborate with SEO and audience teams to ensure content is optimised for discoverability without compromising editorial integrity.
- Use performance data and analytics to refine content approaches and improve engagement.
- Represent the publication editorially through interviews, industry communication or event coverage when required.
- Support innovation initiatives, including the practical use of AI tools to improve efficiency and editorial workflows under the guidance of senior leadership.
Requirements:
- 3+ years’ experience in journalism or digital editorial roles.
- Proven experience editing and commissioning content in a fast-paced news environment.
- Strong news judgement and the ability to shape stories from pitch through to publication.
- Excellent writing, editing and headline-writing skills.
- Solid understanding of iGaming, esports or adjacent digital industries.
- Awareness of regulatory sensitivities within European gaming markets.
- Experience working with modern CMS platforms and analytics tools.
- Good understanding of SEO best practices for news publishing.
- Interest in AI-assisted editorial tools and modern publishing workflows.
- Excellent written and verbal English skills.
- Confident communicator with writers, PR contacts and internal stakeholders.
- Degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Based in Malta or Europe, with flexibility to work remotely.
Nice to have:
- Previous experience at a recognised gaming, esports or B2B media outlet.
- Experience working with remote or internationally distributed teams.
- Demonstrated ambition to progress into senior editorial leadership.
- Familiarity with European gaming regulation and compliance considerations.
