The VAT Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with local and international VAT laws and regulations, optimizing tax processes, and providing strategic advice to the organization. This position plays a key role in managing indirect tax matters (e.g., VAT, GST) across business operations, reducing risks, and identifying opportunities for business improvement in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

ResponsibilitiesCompliance & Reporting:
- Ensure accurate preparation, review, and submission of VAT returns, EC Sales Lists, Intrastat reports, and other related filings
- Manage VAT audits and tax authority communications, ensuring timely responses and resolution
- Stay up-to-date with VAT regulations and ensure company practices are in line with legal requirements
Advisory:
- Provide VAT guidance to leadership, finance, and business teams for transactions and contracts
- Assess VAT implications of cross-border transactions and ensure the proper VAT treatment for domestic and international activities
- Advise on VAT structuring to reduce liability and create efficient tax solutions
Process Optimization:
- Develop and implement robust VAT compliance processes, policies, and systems
- Collaborate with finance, accounting, and operations teams to optimize systems for VAT handling
- Identify VAT opportunities for savings, recoveries, and efficiencies
Training & Education:
- Educate internal teams on VAT compliance requirements and best practices
- Provide periodic training on VAT changes, risks, and implications
Risk Management:
- Mitigate VAT risks through proactive review of business operations and transaction flows
- Address any discrepancies, reconciling records to ensure accurate VAT reporting
Education & Experience:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in VAT or indirect tax, preferably in a multinational setting or a tax advisory firm
- At least 1+ year of people management experience
- Professional accounting or tax qualification (e.g., ACCA, ACA, CPA, CTA, or equivalent)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Law, or a related field
- Solid understanding of European VAT legislation and cross-border transactions; knowledge of global VAT/GST regulations is a plus
Skills:
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex VAT laws
- Proficiency with VAT reporting tools and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite)
- Excellent communication skills for writing reports, discussing VAT matters with tax authorities, and training internal teams
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills
- Proven track record of managing VAT audits and resolving indirect tax issues
